Smile
16 AugToday was a very gloomy day (literally and emotionally)… Actually this whole week has been pretty melancholy. I’ve wanted to just give up and lose hope. I’ve cried. I’ve screamed. I’ve slept as hard and long as I possibly could, hoping my misery would just pass me by and I would wake up when it was over. Sometimes… times… are just… hard.
“I almost gave up on a power that I can’t explain.” This lyric is from a song by Kirk Franklin. It is the song that is getting me through this day filled with dark clouds and rainy tears. I won’t give up on God. He believes in me and His plans are bigger than my own. “I know God is working, so I smile.”
Today, if you’re not feeling your best, remember that the One that created you, the One who stitched each part of you together, the One who knew you before your parents did… the One who while breathing His final breath saw you, saw your beautiful smile… the One who is up in heaven watching over you and waiting anxiously for His Father to tell Him that He can come down and take us home – our eternal home. Our home away from all this pain, suffering, gloom, and exhaustion… This Person loves us all so much, so we all have something to smile about. Things WILL get better! Until then, smile. “Even though hurts… smile.”

depression and unemployment.
This song’s for you.Today’s a new day, but there is no sunshine.
Nothing but clouds, and it’s dark in my heart
and it feels like a cold night.
Today’s a new day, where are my blue skies,
where is the love and the joy that you promised me
you tell me it’s alright.(I’ll be honest with you)
I almost gave up, but a power that I can’t explain,
fell from heaven like a shower now.(When I think how much better I’m gonna be when this is over)
I smile, even though I hurt see I smile,
I know God is working so I smile,
Even though I’ve been here for a while (what you do?)
I smile, smile..
it’s so hard to look up when you’ve been down.
Sure would hate to see you give up now
You look so much better when you smile, so smile.Today’s a new day, but there is no sunshine.
Nothing but clouds, and it’s dark in my heart,
and it feels like a cold night.
Today’s a new day, but tell me where are my blue skies,
where is the love and the joy that you promised me
you tell me it’s alright.
(the truth is)
I almost gave up, but a power that I can’t explain (the holy ghost power, yo)
fell from heaven like a shower now.
I smile, even though I hurt see I smile,
I know God is working so I smile,
Even though I’ve been here for a while
I smile, smile..
it’s so hard to look up when you’ve been down.
Sure would hate to see you give up now
You look so much better when you smile.
Smile.. for me
Can you just smile… for me.
Smile.. for me
Can you just smile… for me.
ohohoh you look so much better when you
ohohoh you look so much better when you
ohohoh you look so much better when you
ohohoh you look so much better when you
ohohoh you look so much better when you
(and while your waiting)
ohohoh you look so much better when you
(and while your praying)
ohohoh you look so much better when you
(look in the mirror)
ohohoh you look so much better when you
(always remember)
You look so much better when you smile
I almost gave up, but a power that I can’t explain (but the holy ghost power, yo)
fell from heaven like a shower now.
I smile, even though I hurt see I smile,
I know God is working so I smile,
Even though I’ve been here for a while
I smile, smile..
it’s so hard to look up when you’ve been down.
Sure would hate to see you give up now.
You look so much better when you smile.
so smile.
ohohoh (Dallas) you look so much better when you
ohohoh (New Orleans) you look so much better when you
ohohoh (Clevland) you look so much better when you
ohohoh (Detroit) you look so much better when you
ohohoh (Philay) you look so much better when you
ohohoh (Jersey) you look so much better when you
ohohoh (L.A) you look so much better when you
ohohoh (all my people say) you look so much better when you
smile…
See I just don’t want you to be happy
’cause you gotta have something happening.
I want you to have joy
’cause can’t nobody take that away from you.
I see you.. SMILE!!
YOU LOOK SO MUCH BETTER WHEN YOU SMILE!

“I woke up and looked around. My sleep had been very sweet.” (Jeremiah 31:26)
You push the little button down – a simple effort that guarantees your alarm will not ring. With no obnoxious buzz to jolt you awake, a dreamlike smile sweeps your mind and you stretch once, twice. Feeling like an heir to some latter-day throne, you pull your blanket up over your shoulders and doze off into never-never land…
Turning off an alarm is an extravagant pleasure – on a par with walking barefoot in the mud. Actions like these keep the cobwebs out. Without them, we close our eyes at seventeen and open them at sixty-five.
So loosen up today. If you need some ideas on how to go about it, lavish yourself with some of the following:
Smile at a child. Smile at the child’s parents, too. Tell them they’ve got a good-looking kid – even if he looks like a lizard. Or round up a couple of friends, dig out a jump rope, and have an old-fashioned aerobic workout. If you want to make a friend for life, invite your mom to jump in.
Laugh out loud. Climb a tree. Take a bubble bath. Count your teeth with your tongue. Chew a wad of gum, and pop the bubble on your face. Smell a freshly mowed lawn. Better yet, visit the biggest library in town, stand in the center, and take a long, slow whiff. Inhale the fragrance of thoughts and wisdom. Breaths of library air should cost a quarter each. So get what you can now – free – while the supply lasts.
Walk on a brick wall and sing “amazing Grace.” Sit on your roof and watch the sun set. After it’s down, make some popcorn and return for the second show: fireflies at dusk. They’re more magical than anything Steven Spielberg or Disneyland can produce.
You want extravagance? I’ll give you extravagance: Before you go to bed tonight talk to God. Don’t just mumble a few bless’ems. Really pray. While you’re at it, thank God for sunsets and fireflies and bubble baths. And don’t forget babies and popcorn… and alarms that don’t ring.
“This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” (Psalm 118:24)
“As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said. But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!” “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.” (Luke 10: 38-42)
